Alberto León Betancur Coliseum

The Alberto León Betancur Coliseum is named in honor of one of the most distinguished rectors of the Universidad del Valle (University of Valle). It was a construction motivated by Jaime Galarza Sanclemente, which started in 1996. Its opening was in 1997 with the presence of national and regional authorities; equally, for this ceremony, an international volleyball tournament was held.

This venue has become one of the University’s insignias due to its design and utility. Besides to be used for physics education and sports programs, it is the scenario for several national and regional sporting events and multiple recreational activities, as well as social, political and cultural events that are scheduled by the institution. 

The Coliseum has a construction area of 4.000 square meters. It has a wooden stage for social and cultural ceremonies; a central court for basketball, volleyball and five-a-side; one electronic scoreboard; grandstands for 3.000 people; side access gates, restrooms, showers, storehouses and offices.

Due to its design and infrastructure, the Alberto León Betancur Coliseum was chosen by The World Games organization as venue for tug of war competitions. In consequence, it was renewed its dressing rooms, warm-up areas, showers and bathrooms to complete the current scenario.
